Friday - School Halloween party - all dogs with big painted spots on their Tee shirts and big floopy ears...ahhhh
Audition for Sin the P with G, Went well. Sang a little ditty from The R. Saw the very charming (but always very businesslike) Mr Donovan. If you're stage and you come to LA, you will end up in front of him on more than one occasion. Be ready my friends - you won't get another chance if you suck!
Had a screening for a friend's film at midnight (the hire is cheaper) in a wonderful cinema on Wilshire. Unfortunately, the film was somewhat lacking in many departments. I'm happy to report that my friend was great but there was woefully little of her (not being biased!). The rest of the casting was suspect, the cinematography was poor, the sound (probably THE most important thing) was TERRIBLE, the acting (with a few exceptions) was, well, sad and the story was weak and poorly executed. 20 year old director who did manage to get his film shot, edited and screened but he has a LOT to learn. Very very tired but we still had something to shoot which we did in about 2 minutes flat. Bed at 2.30.

Wednesday. Rehearsed Pillowman with K. Went well. Different every rehearsal which is sort of how it should be! Off to M's for ST reh but didn't get to do it as I ran out of time before going to pick up Monkey.
Park again and I had a 'phone call from... shock horror... my theatrical agent! Blimey, I thought they'd lost my number. Turns out that I have an audition for CSI:NY!! Fantastic!! I thought it would be a meaty role to get my teeth into. Turns out it's for the role of Gabe, a NYC newsvendor who has... 6 words! Not lines, words. Hey ho, don't knock it! I was so shocked, I almost crashed the car!

Monday. 1st class rehearsal (after the first read) for the second section (are you keeping up?) of The Pillowman with K. Wow, it was free, moment-to-moment and neither of us got hung up on the words. We bounced the moments around but we could both follow each other and we knew where to go next. T said it was excellent work and that we could bring in the scene next week! Whoa! First read, one class rehearsal and then the scene! I think this is the way to rehearse - work on the relationship so much that it's second-nature to you (and you don't have to 'play' it), understand and really live the imaginary circumstances you are in, don't get hung up on the words, just know what the scene is about and what each moment means - REALLY know what each moment means. That way, you can be open and available to your partner without having to think about the words which, after all, is the last thing the writer thought about having built his characters, their spines, the arc of the play etc.,etc. I'm not saying disregard the words (as they are, of course, what the writer wrote), I'm saying learn the moments, how you feel about them, the circumstances you are in, the relationship with your partner and the words will follow. Seriously, all you 'wordies' out there - if you give yourself permission to not have to say the words verbatim in your rehearsals and, instead, work o everything else, you will experience an understanding of the scene you're doing beyond what you thought possible.
Case in point was another couple doing another scene in the class, they were SO paranoid about the words, their scene became a line run with no relationship.
They'd been doing it for about 4 weeks straight and had totally lost the meaning of the whole thing, the moments, the relationship, the focus, the whole point of the scene, etc. They need to totally drop the script for a few weeks and just work through the moments in their own words. Really know what the moments are, what they mean and focus on what the other person is REALLY saying and really let it affect them. Back to basics. It really helps sometimes.

Saturday - a special day! Had dins at the House of Blues on Sunset then went to Target - oh yeah!

Friday, we went into munchkin's school to have a 'All about me' day for him. We told his class about his favourite toys, food and we read his favourite story. Ahh! He had lots of fun telling everyone about his things.
Hit the park after school.
Need to follow up electronic submissions with hard copies over the weekend, send a potential agent a hs/res, work on my SR and section II of the scene.
