Blighty comes to Tinseltown

Saturday morning from 1.30am until 5.00am on and off, littl'un keeps getting up turning on the lights and playing. M and I basically take it in turns to put him back to bed and he SCREAMS at the top of his voice every single time. MY GOD, he is LOUD. I sincerely hope we kept next door up all night! I suppose it wasn't all bad!
Saturday. Off to Nikki's bday party. Blimey it's hot. The guys had a great time and monkey was on top form. They had a bouncer and a craft table and it was very nice.
Chatted and chatted about all sorts of things. Spoke to one of the producers of Porridge, The Movie. Unbelievable. All these years later and I'm chatting to one of the makers of the film. Fantastic! You can read about the film (and the series which it was spun off from) here.
All the mums bar one or two are preggers again! Arrgh! No, we're not going to be anytime soon. Oh, spoke to M & N about getting me the footage of the scratch sessions I did for Flush. Aw., the new film from DW Ani coming up soon. Shouldn't be a problem! Dropped him off at 'drop off' and went to the Grove. Bought tickets for MI3 but there wasn't a seat free so we slunk into Over the Hedge. Glad we did because it was friggin HILARIOUS!! Brilliantly done, it's stacks better than Shrek and Shark Tale and right up there with Toy Story & TS2. Very clever and very intelligent!
The film opened with a short called 'First Flight' which was M's film. It was super. Really cute and touching. Loved it. M and I recounted the episodes of Friday (which wasn't posted) and she said sorry. Good, move on.

Friday.
More work on video, reel, dvd sleeve and hs/resumes. The meeting is with a guy from Billst. Gr. which is unbelievably huge. Same building as the ADR work I did for The Road to Empire movie last year. Anyway, got there and was told by his asst. that the guy hadn't been in all day and he had forgotten to cancel me. Great. Smashing. I was well pleased but was, of course, a perfect gent about it. We re-sheduled for next Tuesday. Maybe he'll be extra nice about taking me on! Ha, dream on!
Actually, I think I have a very good chance!
Sat up all working on gotbrit.com and jamesmeehan.com.
Need to finish my commercial and theatrical reels and post them on lac and aa.
(note: check draft blog entries)

Thursday.
Spoon River class, group therapy. Childhood and the effects our parents had on us.
Very traumatic three two hours. We didn't even get half way thru the people in the room so we're going to do the same next week. Work on Baker's Cops will be the following Thurs.
Went home and worked on the dvd sleeve, more work on my reel and various other tasks to get ready for Friday's meet with the manager.

Wednesday.
Class w S. Worked with Cris. She came to my door. Felt pretty good. Had to concentrate on her rather than letting my attention put thoughts in my head. S liked it and I had a 'very good'. Gave him a copy of check-in and asked him if he could watch it that day and advise whether or not to give it to the manager I'm meeting on Friday. He said he would.
Chatted to him later and he said that he really liked the film and complimented me on a greta script and a well executed short. Praise indeed. I respect his opinion. He also said that if it was a smaller mgmt firm then it would be fine to hand over. If a bigger one which would like to see credits, then no. BUT, maybe I could give to them as well on the proviso that it was presented as a small film that I'd done for a festival which would show my acting. Great. That's what I'll do.

Tuesday. Fun and games at the play cafe in the morning. Met a Brit who was a laugh.
Bob, Rob and G came over in the afternoon to work on the new script. It's a whopping 231 pages!! It's going to be great! Watched CI and it rocked!! Burnt some DVDs of the film!

Monday. M is away with R on Catalina so we couldn't do the scene. Did a door to T's activity. I had strong feelings for T's activity and gave it to him. Got pretty heated but Ty gave it a very good. So that's good. Felt good, felt natural. Ty decided that he was going to judge the class as per the ACLU's standards so he told us that everything was going to be excellent, it wasn't possible for anyone to be bad. He told us that he would have to drop the standards so low to conform to the level of the other acting schools in LA. So that's how every scene and D/A was critiqued! It was painful. I felt like cringing after every exercise, the comments were horrific. "That was nice". "You positively glowed". He lead us all in a round of applause after each exercise. Painful. BUT, this is the kind of that happens in every class in some Hollywood 'acting' schools. No joke. The people who go to these places are routinely fooled into parting with their money in the belief that they are actually half decent which is, sadly, not the case. Their tutors tell them their wonderful as they take their money every month. They never get kicked out and they really don't have to work at anything. So, they are crap and they stay crap. Very sad. This, of course, was Ty's point. Very well made as well.
It also means that when a CD sees my school on my resume, they'll know that I really work to be as good as I can be at what I do. Make sense? Yes, I think so.
Headed over to The F's Club in BH to see S. He wanted to show me the new VI trailer. Looks great! He's doing well too. Chatted about VI. Also chatted about our trailer and what Sar did after I had left. She was booked as a 'drape' for me for my scene. However, she asked me to go thru the lines so she could take a shot at the monologue. I said OK thinking that she was being a little headstrong but I didn't want to steal her thunder so we rehearsed. At the end of the day when they were ready to pack up, S tried to find Sar as he knew she wanted to film her version. So, they searched and searched but couldn't find her. So they packed up and then she appeared. He reluctantly set everything up again. So S gave Sar some suggestions and direction but she decided that she wanted to do her own version of the monologue and do it where she wanted to, not lying on the pool table with a ball in each hand (funny) but sitting on the edge of the table with a pool cue in her hand (not funny). So, they got started and things got worse. Much worse. She was bad, not just bad bad but absolutely terrible. She thought she could come along, grab some lines and be amazing even thought she was booked to look pretty and have some fun and nothing else. Know thyself, little lady and do what you're booked to do. Oh by the way, did I mention that S fired the producer? Artistic differences I think. He wanted to find out why F hadn't done a stack of producer type stuff (such as set up an LLC as he should have to cover things like, oh, I don't know, a limited liability to cover the liabilities that he was supposed to be covering in the agreements we were signing), F told him to stay creative and never mind what he thought should be done.. so he fired him. Quite rightly so!

Mother's day. Littl'un painted a picture for his mum and I made card for her, ahhh. Knocked up a coffee cake and rather impressed myself at how it turned out.
Found a new park in Santa Monica. Loads of sand and climbing equipment. Played there for about 4 hours to give M some time at home. While I was there, a guy (very well dressed, obviously with money) comes into the park with his kid, sits on the end of a slide and proceeds to fill a Ziploc gallon bag with sand and walk out. I couldn't believe it. He stole a gallon of sand. What a cheap bastard.
By the way, yesterday, as we were leaving the park, some guy in a friggin' huge SUV (Escalade), gets out with his kid and puts a plastic bag on the parking meter so he wouldn't have to put 25c into it. I kid you not. A fucking huge SUV, this guy is obviously well heeled and he is so friggin tight, he won't even pony up 25c. I bet he's related to the sand guy. Blimey!
Litt'un decided to resist BIG TIME going to bed but he eventually gave in!
Three games of chess with M and three wins for me. A whitewash, no less.

Saturday. Party for K at a BevHills park. Loads of fun for litt'un. B has lost loads of weight! Fairly peaceful day. Snoozed a little. Stared work on my reel. BB replied to my email by saying that the Coke stuff is so secret he couldn't release it (which is fair enough). He knows the manager I'm going to see so he said he could arrange for him to see it if needbe.
Played chess with M and won!
Watched Capote. Stellar performances from everyone, including Mark P.

Friday. Worked on a few edits for the short. Spoke to G about the changes and sent him the ident as well. Couple of hours and it was all done.
Went over my daily journals from last year and read thru all my HomeJ stuff (yep, I drove for HomeJ) and found the name and number of an agent I drove home after an eye op. These guys are BIG! They rep some A list Hollywood clients! I thought, what the hell so I called him and left a message with his PA. He called back in the afternoon! He remembered me and asked me what he could do for me. I told him a wanted a face-to-face and he said OK. I have a meeting next Friday!! I don't know what will happen but I just know that's it's going to be a key event in my career.
Watched Hide & Seek and liked it, yes, but it didn't grab me. Maybe it was my mood? I don't know. Good film though.
