Blighty comes to Tinseltown

Up late. Nice relaxed breakfast. Call at 11am. Bliss.
Off to the Donner Ski Resort.
Lots of busy slopes - skiers and snowboarders of all ages, 2 and up. Not kidding. The kids are amazing. Coming down the slopes with the prowess of an Olympic Champ (not an American one, of course. Nice work at the Olympics chaps!).
Anyway, well impressed.
Basically sat in the Ski lodge until about 4pm. Very bored. But that's the job, kids!
Sit around until you;re needed. The main shoot with the skidoo and the stunt double, Jim Ripley, was taking place out of our view, halfway down the mountain on the other side.
Sounded like the shots were coming along nicely judging by the walkie chatter.
Apparently, Jim was doing an amazing job, after all he is the best board trickster in the business. He does all the work and I take the credit. That's also the job!
Anyway, we finally hear that I'm up... and this is the fun part. I come all the way to Tahoe for three days and I end up shooting.... In front of a greescreen in the car park, standing on a wooden board on top of a truck inner tube! Fantastic!
Add to that, by the time they stop fannying around and get to my shots, the Sun (that big 20K in the sky) is rapdily heading for a hillside and everyone is friggin' STRESSED. Then everyone starts arguing about how the shot should work, which way I'm facing, the camera angle, etc. The 1st AD tells them that they have about 10 mins of Sun left and there's 2 shots to get.

They roll, they call me confusing direction, I do it, they don't like it, they cut. We do it all aagin. Sun going down... We do it again. They get stressed because I'm not doing what they want. So, I jump off the board and say "I'm not a mindreader, please someone show me what they want and I'll do it" I had almost lost it. They show me, they roll and I do it. Simple really!
Sun is going behind the hill...
2nd shot and they build some apples to jump off. Key grip says he won;t be rushed. It needs to be safe. He's not going to risk me hurting myself.
They reload with faster film and orange filters to compensate for the fading light.
They shoot, I jump, they cut. We do it again.
I'm wrapped... completely. DONE!
Hugs and kisses all around.
Back to hotel.
Off to dinner. Very nice!
Off to bed.

Cab at 7am and off to LAX
Breezed pass all the lines - gotta love that ticketless checkin. Stright to the security line. Stripped naked (almost) and sent everything thru the X-Ray machine.
Met B at the gate. Southwest airlines with 4 stops.
It's like a bus! We were the second stop! Had a thought that this is the 7th plane I've been on in 3 weeks! Almost finished though.
Welcome to Reno. Great approach - scenery was incredible.
Picked up and off to the hotel.
Lunch with B, R & S at the Blue Coyote.
Then spent the rest of the day in my room watching TV and doing email.
No-one called me. Basically left me in the room...

Fun and games.
Family walk.
Packed for 2mrw.

Went out with the little fella today and met a voice over guy called Eric. Nice guy. Said he'd give me a call and we'd hang out. Funny guy. Same sense of humour and taste in film. You know, the sort of person you think could be a friend. Anyway, litt'un had a fun time and went home happy (and asleep too).
Heard about Bush wanting to give over control of 6 East Coast ports to the Saudis...Blimey, bit worrying methinks. Is it just me?
Also found out that a girl who used to be in my acting class whom I thought was pretty damn good (so I represented her and got her 2 vouchers thru background work, oh and moved to another agency) really let me down. Turns out she took a day of work to get her third voucher, was late to set on the second day and, even though she was recalled from set, didn't even turn up for the third day. So, basically she's got her card now and has pooped on my other casting associates and I. If there's such a thing as Karma, she won't be doing too much legit work in the future.
Littl'un into the bath and bed.

up with the little one.
Off to the movies at The Grove. Crape & the "Pink Panther". Nothing on the original. I like Steve Martin but I couldn't help but compare him (very unfavourable) with Peter Sellars. Kevin Kline (whom I think is superb) really coasted the whole movie. The film is worth watching just to see Jean Reno dancing in 'that' costume. I think maybe the direction was a little too fluffy.
Watched "The Notebook" on DVD. Superb film. Excellent performances and a beautiful period piece.

Overslept - damn! Woke up when I got a 'phone call from downstairs. "Are you coming down"? Holy crap - haven't packed or anything. Oh SHIT!!
Ran around the room and threw eveything in a bag. 20 mins 'til the bus leaves and I still haven't showered!
The co-ordinator appeared at my door with a cart and bel-hop as I was puting my shoes on! Quick look around the room and out the door.
Downstairs and checked out. R phoning me from the airport to say that the queue is scary so I should just leave.
Out to the van and had a ribbing from the guys asking what the hell I was upto last night. I declined to say.
Arrived at the airport and went into the 'Elite' first class line (god bless SAG union rules). All the other troops into coach.
Not sure what all the fuss and phone calls were about. The line was fine, no worries that we were going to miss the plane.
Great flight. Ears hurt though.
Change at Houston. Two hours until flight to LAX. Decided to check out the Elite club. Very very nice. Checked out the complimentary snacks and coffee. Comfy chairs and a superb view of the gates.
Flight home. Ears hurting again!
Home.
