Thought this was rather funny...(Thanks to TheDailyView)
"Bother," said Pooh, "Eeyore, ready two photon torpedoes and lock
phasers on the Heffalump. Piglet, meet me in transporter room
three. Christopher Robin, you have the bridge."

Hum... name all 75 bands in the picture. Here's a pic and story from Blighty.

Here's a rather topical image...(Thanks to BoingBoing)

Spoon River class and I'm onto my next one... George Gray. Yet another tortured soul! Great class, everyone very focused.
Home and out to play with littl'un.
Did a ton more work on my voicereel. Sent a couple of online postcards to some industry folks. Watched the final of 'Soapstar' (yes, I hate reality shows too but this is pretty compelling stuff). Anyway, they gave the contract to a guy who is possibly greener than Kermit the Frog. I honestly don't know what they see in him although there was talk of the spark, the all American look, the 'untrained' edge, the willingness to learn, etc. I suppose they know what they're doing but I'm not convinced! What do I know, anyway?! One thing I really hope for his sake is that he feels what he needs to every single day because a soap is going to be an absolute bastard to work in when you have some off days and you have no craft or technique to help you. I'm sure he'll get it together and you have to be happy for him - don't you? Maybe not.
Today's picture is a door outside the set of 'An American Crime' I snapped during the looooong periods of sitting around in the heat! Oh, I got an IMDB credit for it too. Very cool!

What-ho! Voice-over audition for USPS today. Quite funny actually. I played a talking package. I love VO auditions because it doesn't matter what you look like! HaHa! Unfortunately I was paired with a rather old lady (Polish, I think) who was possibly slower on the uptake than an arthritic slug and she also had the first line. They'll probably listen to the files, hear her, fast forward to the next pair and skip me completely. Ah well, that's showbiz, kid.
Off to the Zimmer museum on Wilshire. Very cool for kids, a plane, an ambulance, a play cafe and a ton of other stuff for active little brains to wrap themselves around.
Worked on my voice reel and a little more on the website too.
Listening to Juana Molina - Son - I think she recorded and mixed this album in her bedroom. Very Cool.

Great story about insanely realistic art. Also a super list of the more professional blogs out there. Enjoy.

Hit the park with the monkey and he played in the shade with his mate. Called my manager to tell her that I've given my agents the headsup on her calling them to introduce herself. Both agents seemed pretty cool, considering that everything you read, both online and in these books from Sam French, says that a lot of agents don't like working with managers. Well, mine are fine about it, it would seem. Let's hope that we all get busy together, eh!
Worked on my website for a hour or so and it's coming along fine. A little HTML plus a free template seems to be working wonders. A little more work needed before I post the URL! Also worked on my voicereel as more and more people are asking for it. VO work is an excellent way to make money if your dulcet tones are in demand which I'm hoping mine will be very soon! It's a very tricky market to break into (and you thought acting was tough, ha!) although my commercial agent and my manager are both willing to push me once they have my stuff on mp3!

Monday and off to class. Worked with Yell and we had a humdinger of a relationship worked out. Unfortunately, we had so much to our relationship, we really should have taken a week to settle it in our heads rather than 15 minutes from discussion to exercise. Ah well, made for a very interesting and emotional 10 minutes on stage! 8 in class today. T said that he had had a dozen enquiries about his script class so I should hurry up and apply if I want to have a chance of getting in there.
Had a long chat with A who's out in NY for another 3 weeks.
No word from the callback... hey ho.

Sunday... and back on the Paramount lot. Well, not quite. A couple of local neighbourhood groups had organised a crafty/community sort of thing and we took the littl'un along. Quite fun as it turned out. Made all sorts of fun things (well, fun in a 'craft' sort of way) from prints to flags to beady jewelry stuff. B & L were there too. Lots of fun. Chatted to Gazza and Steve who has taken a bouncer job at a local club, just up the road! Cool! e told me that VI is progressing nicely and that the producer had just gone through the budget with him... thoroughly! S said it was an inch thick which I'm supposing is a good thing as I'm guessing it means the producer is halfway decent. S also said that he had a great feeling about things which is also a very good thing! Gazza said that he was very happy with the footage taken by the tar pits on Friday and he can now finish the film in time for the Sundance admissions date. Top job, Gazza!

Birthday party in the park for littl'un - remember, when you have kids, their schedule is your schedule (!). Cup cakes and pizza and Hanson soda (which is full of High Fructose Corn Syrup, by the way).
Watched RENT on DVD. Enjoyed it more this time around (saw it when it was released at the cinema). The score is fantastic and everything from the show is in there but I still believe it would have been very different if Jonathan Larson had still been alive. I definitely felt that the director had left everything 'in there' either as a tribute to the composer or because the family had stipulated that everything had to be left in there! Either way, there were a few moments which could have been more 'cinematic' rather than just presenting a filmed version of the stage show. Mr Larson may well have composed some additional music or even allowed some moments to be taken out. Anyway, we'll never know and the film still stands alone as a great piece of art.
Quote from what I'm watching at the moment..."you stupid ignorant son of a bitch bastard" (Gene Wilder, Silver Streak). Nice! Night night zzzzzzz

Friday's here! After dropping the munchkin off at school, it's onto the La Brea tar pits (I had no idea what the bleedin' hell these things were until a couple of months ago...anyway, I digress) to meet up with Gazza and Robert to do some V/O and fill-in shots for Gazza's feature, UC. Did the V/O in the car and then the lovely Talia, my co-star, arrived to do her stuff. Rob and I wondered off to scout a quiet spot for the fill-in shots while T was busy. Shot the shots in about a half-hour (G knows exactly what he wants so he's incredibly quick) whilst trying to look like we were shooting a home movie so as not to raise any interest from security and then off to the Farmer's Market for a spot of brunch. Spent most of the time trying to persuade T to make notes about the day-to-day life of the place where she works as we all think it's screenwriting gold! The wealth of characters mixed with a central plot would make such a great script.
Home again and then off to my manager's meeting in Toluca Lake. Oh, interestingly enough, fresh from cursing the screen the night before at the dismissal of BA on Soapstar (I only watched it because BA was in it, by the way), I sat down right next to Michael Bruno who was chatting to a network guy.
Anyway, the lovely lady walked in and we proceeded to have a two-and-a-half hour discussion about each other, where I wanted to go, what I wanted to do, her opinions on various things, our thoughts about the industry, how she worked, how we were going to work together, my previous stuff, who I already knew in the business etc., culminating in the glorious result that I now have a manager, and she's a member of the TMA as well, the only body of talent managers with a code of ethics! Great! When all is said and done, I'll keep doing things the way I'm doing them, submitting myself and having my agents submit me but I will have M on my team now, always available for advice, speaking to my agents, checking with contacts and always alert for opportunities... nice to know someone else is going to be 'on my side'.
Turned in really early and zzzzzzzzzz.
